Meet the ladies

With less than a week left til we depart this beautiful country, we figured it was probably time for y’all to meet the ladies. This week finds the fellowship coming to a close and we’re feeling a WIDE range of emotions. We LOVE the ladies. LOVE the fellows. (duh to both). LOVE that my sister is here and KILLIN it making a film for 1000 Shillings. We adore chapattis and Krest (coca cola’s best kept secret in Africa). Love that the Nile river is a hop, skip, and a jump away. Love waking up to the vast and magnificent beauty of Mount Wanale as she watches over us. Love our friends at the Casa who have quickly become an extension of our families. Love the walk home each day from Namatala. Love motorcycle rides everywhere we go (even though JHH almost lost a leg to one last week…we’ll explain later, let’s not dampen this vibe). Love knowing that Kenya is just across the mountain range. Love the constant, striking, GREEN lushness that abounds. Love spending every day waking up to roosters crowing (and Koji barking) as the sun rises–who needs alarm clocks anyways? LOVE spending every day all the time with my best friend in Africa and literally experiencing all it has to offer–be it showering in buckets, cruising the Nile, becoming immune to power outages and most importantly, working with a group of fiercely strong, loyal, funny, inspiring and compassionate women in Namatala as well as the BEST group of fellows we could have dreamed of on this fellowship–all who have become our friends for a lifetime. We’ll miss our adventures in the Pearl of Africa. But it’s time to come home so we can eat chipotle, see our family and our friends (I really need to give my mom a hug, skype just ain’t cutting it), go to the Whole Foods and drink green juice, remember what it’s like to eat meat, apply to jobs (oy), and make our way out West.

The ladies are already asking us when we’ll return and if they’ll see us again. This makes our hearts hurt, but we’d like to think we’ll see them again. Here’s a glimpse of the women we’ve spent our days with for the last two months. PS- this is the ladies right after they received micro grant receipts.
